Authorizations

What is an Authorization?

Suppli offers the ability* to authorize a card transaction, then run the card for the exact amount you need it for after the fact. Many of our merchants find this helpful when requiring up-front payment prior to material being delivered, especially when the final cost may vary depending on how much is used.

*Please note, this functionality is not available for all instances of Suppli. Your ERP must support Deposit creation and syncing in order to facilitate this functionality. If you do not see the + Add Deposit button on the deposits page, this functionality is not supported for you.

How to Run an Authorization

To utilize this feature, simply go to the Invoices page and then click the Deposits tab. If this feature is available to you, you'll see the + Add Deposit button. Cards can be authorized using the Request Payment or Receive Payment button. Once you turn the Run as Authorization toggle on, our system will recognize that you wish to authorize the payment rather than run it in that moment.

Note: If you request payment from a customer and they choose to pay via ACH, this will not authorize their ACH payment method, it will simply run the payment for the amount requested, as authorizations are only applicable on card payments.

Once a card has been authorized, you as the merchant have 7 days to run the card payment method for the amount actually owed. Simply click on the authorized deposit to open the sidebar, click Run Payment, enter in the amount that needs to be charged to the card in the pop-up modal, and click Run Payment again.

Once the card has been ran, you'll now see the deposit status as Open instead of Authorized, and can then be used to pay off invoices.

Why can't I authorize a card?

As mentioned above, this functionality is not available for all instances of Suppli. Your ERP must support Deposit creation and syncing in order to facilitate this functionality. If you do not see the + Add Deposit button on the deposits page, this functionality is not supported for you.
